Dear Andrean Family,
As many of you are aware, Hurricane Harvey has brought forth significant damage to the greater Houston area. In our call to serve as active members of the Body of Christ, Andrean has discerned how best to serve regarding this disaster.
This email is to invite everyone to participate in Solidarity 2017: Connecting Andrean with Houston. As the Andrean Family comes together to live out our mission of faith, learning, leadership, and service, the opportunity to tangibly help our brothers and sisters in Houston is apparent.
On September 21, students will be participating in our first Formation Day. Educational formation in students’ classes as to the relevancy of what Harvey brought forth and why we are called to serve others in their time of need will be the key goals of the day.
Andrean has personally partnered with two school communities that have been severely affected by the storm as we find ways to offer financial and spiritual support.
Cristo Rey Jesuit is a Catholic high school in Houston. While the storm has not significantly damaged their building, many of their families’ homes have been destroyed. This school community is most in need of monetary donations to assist with tuition and payroll as families face the financial hardships of the storm. Additionally, the school community has requested gift cards for home repair stores, gasoline, groceries, clothing, etc.
Home Depot, Lowes, Menards
Interested parties will be able to donate to the greater community through Andrean’s Formation Day efforts. All money and gift cards will be forwarded to Cristo Rey Jesuit and allocated as we request and accompanied with personal letters of encouragement.
St. Thomas Episcopal is a K-12 school in Houston; an Andrean alum (Erica Maw ’99) has served on staff for several years and contacted us directly seeking whatever assistance could be offered. The building has sustained significant flood damage with many rooms taking up to three feet of water. As restoration begins, many classroom and school supplies have been rendered unfit and need to be replaced. The school community has requested donations and gift cards for school and office supplies.
Interested parties will be able to furnish classrooms, finance special projects, donate to the greater school, or provide gift cards for these items through Andrean’s Formation Day efforts. All money and items will be forwarded to St. Thomas Episcopal and allocated as we request and accompanied with personal letters of encouragement.
You may bring donations and/or classroom items to the Andrean Main Office through the afternoon of Thursday, September 21. As we actively live out Andrean’s mission, we embody our call to serve our neighbors in their time of need. This is what it means to be a 59er as we live out our school’s mission. Please join us in Solidarity 2017: Connecting Andrean with Houston.
