Dear Andrean Family,
Greetings from Andrean! We are off to a great start of the 2017-2018 school year, and beginning our fourth week! While I could write about many things, I would like to focus on four matters that impact all of us and describe exciting times for Andrean!
1. We would like to hold in prayer all of the Andrean family who are living in or have family members or friends living in, any areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Please know of our support. We pray for you and ask God to bless you. On September 21, 2017, we will hold our first Formation Day of the year with our Andrean community to raise awareness for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, collect donations, write letters, and offer prayers for a Catholic High School and Grade School in the Houston area. More details forthcoming. We are calling the day: “A Day of Solidarity: Connecting Andrean and Houston 2017.”
2. We are blessed to have so many amazing students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This fall, we are excited to have a number of reunions on campus, and we welcome all alumni back for Homecoming Weekend, September 29th – October 1st, especially for our Football Game versus Kankakee Valley, on Friday, September 29th. Yearbooks from various years and Andrean wear will be available for purchase. Alumni, please join us at the Alumni Tent during the game. And congratulations to all of the classes who are celebrating their reunions!!
3. Return of the Super Raffle and the AAA (Andrean Athletic Association): If you are interested in serving on the Super Raffle Committee: Celebrating the Andrean Family – Super Raffle 2018, please contact Mrs. Michelle Aerts at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in serving on a planning committee to restart the AAA, please contact Mrs. Kelly Fitzgerald, Athletic Director, at email@example.com. We are very excited to explore the return of this wonderful community event and the long-standing AAA.
4. Finally, I would like to share with you a press release from Bishop Hying, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, and Dr. Joe Majchrowicz, Director of Catholic Schools, that was sent for publication earlier this afternoon. We are in exciting times for the Diocese of Gary, the Catholic Schools, and Andrean High School!! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Bishop Hying authorized the below Press Release today for the NWI Times, Post Tribune and Northwest Indiana Catholic:
Date: September 11, 2017
Contact: Dr. Joe Majchrowicz
Director of Catholic Schools
Roman Catholic Diocese of Gary
Phone: (219) 769-9292 x 233
Merrillville, IN— The Diocese of Gary is planning to implement a four-part initiative focusing on the education of Catholic youth in Northwest Indiana. Investing in Catholic high schools, grade schools, and parish-based religious education and youth ministry will enhance the opportunities for our young people.
Regarding Catholic High Schools, the diocese is working to develop and implement a unified Vision for Catholic High School Education that includes Andrean High School, Bishop Noll Institute, and Marquette Catholic High School. Once completed, the vision will:
Illuminate a shared pathway for sustainable Catholic High School Education in the Diocese, including all three high schools, that are Catholic, academically excellent, affordable, and geographically accessible
Consider creating a new Andrean High School, the possibility of which is being thoughtfully examined
Significant infrastructure issues at Andrean High School exist, and an assessment is being conducted. Options to address these challenges range from renewing the existing school to relocation. While the final cost is not yet known, in the final analysis, a decision will be made based upon the assessment and the vision for Catholic High School Education that also encompasses Marquette Catholic High School and Bishop Noll Institute.
I hope this press release answers many questions and ignites an excitement in all of you for the future of Andrean! We are blessed by God in so many ways. Please pray for us that God will continue to guide us and inspire us to create the Andrean High School God calls us to be for the future of Catholic education in the next 60-year plus!! Please know of our prayers for all of you. Take care and have a wonderful evening!! Go Niners!!
